Suspect in bank employeee's shooting in court today

The suspect detained in connection with the robbery and shooting of Scotiabank employee, Rostan Mahabir, nearly two weeks ago is expected to appear before a San Fernando magistrate on Friday.

The 32-year-old Fyzabad man was arrested at his home a week ago following a review of CCTV footage.

Mahabir was shot in the stomach around 7.30 am on May 14 moments after parking his car along busy Penitence Street and walking toward the bank’s entrance on High Street.

The bandit shot him as he struggled with him for his laptop bag.

Mahabir underwent emergency surgery at the San Fernando General Hospital to remove the bullet from his lower abdomen.

He remains warded at hospital and is said to be recovering well.
