Suspect in brutal beating turns himself in
One of the men who were involved in a fight in San Fernando on Saturday night, which resulted in severe injuries to one of the individuals involved, has been detained.
The suspect is a 29-year-old man from La Romaine.
He surrendered to police on Tuesday afternoon after learning that they were searching for him.
The man has since been taken to the San Fernando General Hospital for medical examination, as he claimed that he was not the aggressor as initially reported, but was defending himself.
The third person involved in this fracas has yet to be held.
Police were told that around 8:20 pm on Saturday, the 33-year-old victim was drinking at a bar along Coffee Street, San Fernando, when he got into a confrontation with a man he knows.
During this confrontation, the 29-year-old reportedly rushed the victim hitting him with a spanner.
He continued to strike the victim with the spanner even after he fell to the ground.
The two assailants then fled the scene in a black Nissan station wagon.
The injured man was rushed for medical treatment and is warded at the San Fernando General Hospital.
Police said the 33-year-old Marabella man suffered injuries so severe, his left eye was ‘torn and dislodged’ from its socket.
The fight was recorded by witnesses in the area.
