Suspect caught in Maracas Bay after sex assault against 8-yr-old girl
After evading the police for about six weeks, a 38-year-old man is currently in custody as the main suspect in allegations of assault of a 12-year-old boy and the sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl.
The suspect was held on Wednesday night in Maracas Bay Village, by officers of the North Eastern Division.
Officers of the Child Protection Unit were then notified and are continuing inquiries.
The allegations reportedly stem from an incident in late August.
The 12-year-old boy and his eight-year-old sister were at the home of a relative in Diego Martin when the 38-year-old called the young girl into a room.
Sometime later when the 12-year-old went to check on his sibling, he observed the older man on top of the girl and raised an alarm.
For his actions, he was beaten and dragged out the house.
However, other persons nearby heard the commotion made by the boy as he attempted to defend himself, which led to a confrontation with the older man.
The suspect then fled the scene.
The 12-year-old was rushed for medical treatment, and eventually, relatives were informed of all that transpired, which led to a report being lodged at the Four Roads Police Station, and then the subsequent arrest.
More on this as it becomes available.
