Suspect held in connection with murder of Laventille teen

Police are expected to approach the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for instructions on how to proceed against a 23-year-old man, who they suspect is linked to the 2017 murder of Richard Smith.

Smith, was shot multiple times in a stairwell near his home in St Barbs, Laventille, on November 18, 2017.

He was rushed to the Port of Spain General Hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The 23-year-old man was held on Thursday in Chaguanas during police operations in the area.

He was handed over to officials from the Homicide Bureau Region 1 after a background tracing was done, and it was realized that this man was wanted in connection with Smith’s murder.

Since then the suspect has been questioned and investigators have compiled a case against him and are expected to approach the DPP’s office for instructions on whether to charge the individual or to release him based on the evidence they present.
