Suspect held with gun, ammo

A Petit Valley man was arrested and a firearm and quantity of ammunition seized by officers during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Western Division.

Officers conducted the exercise between 11 am and 7 pm Thursday, during which they proceeded to the Simeon Road, Petit Valley home of a 30-year-old male suspect.

Police said he was wanted in connection with several offences including common assault, possession of firearm and ammunition, shooting with intent, robbery and housebreaking and larceny.

When the officers arrived at the location, the suspect attempted to escape, but was held a short distance away.

A search resulted in one Glock 17 pistol fitted with an extended magazine containing eight rounds of ammunition being discovered in his possession.

The suspect was arrested in connection with the find. Investigations are ongoing.
