Suspect shot and killed by police during home invasion
One man is dead following a confrontation with police on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Moses John, 20, from Enterprise.
According to reports, at 3.25 am on Sunday, officers of the Central Divisions Special Operations Team received a call about a home invasion in progress at Chadee Lohar Road, Charlieville.
A team of officers led by ASP Smithy and Sgt Haywood responded.
When officers arrived, they were reportedly greeted with heavy gunfire.
The officers, fearful for their lives, drew their licensed weapons and returned fire, fatally wounding one.
One man was held at the scene, while the two other suspects escaped.
However, police received key intelligence which led to the arrests of the other two men later in the day.
The three men, aged 20, 21, and 21, are all from Goodwill Drive, Enterprise, police said.
At the scene of the shooting, police found and seized an AR-15 assault rifle, a pistol with an extended magazine, night scopes, and three bulletproof vests.
In a vehicle, suspected to be the ‘getaway car’, police found and seized a cutting torch capable of slicing through burglar-proofing.
Loop News was told that while police did not know where the weapons were sourced, they appeared to be ‘brand new’.
“This is what we face on a daily basis. We are just glad none of the officers was injured in this exchange,” ASP Smith said.
More on this as it becomes available.
