Suspended cop gunned down at mini-mart; female relative hospitalised

Police are investigating the murder of suspended Senior Superintendent Edward Castillo.

A statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said the 60-year-old retired police officer was conducting business at his mini-mart located at Waterloo Road around 4:30 pm on Saturday, when two men posing as customers entered.

The men ordered a drink and when the victim turned around to retrieve it, one of the men took out a gun and fired several shots at him.

The gunman also shot a female relative who was in the mini-mart at the time of the incident. The men then escaped in a white motor vehicle.

The victim died at the scene, while the female victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

In 2016, the suspended officer appeared in court on four charges including three sex charges against two female police officers.

He was granted $30,000 bail.
