Swimming champ Dylan Carter is going to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
The Commonwealth Games medallist confirmed that he qualified for the Games on Wednesday via social media. In a twist of fate, he is set to compete exactly one year from the day on which he made the announcement.
Carter is currently in South Korea competing at the FINA World Aquatics Championships. He officially qualified after reaching the 100m freestyle semi-final. Although he finished 12th with a time of 48.52, it allowed him a competing spot at the Games which has a qualifying time of 48.57.
This will be his second time at the Olympics following his appearance at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. He won silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, is a multiple CAC gold medallist, and set a new national record in the men’s 50m backstroke.
