Taxi driver escapes kidnapping attempt

A 31-year-old taxi-driver managed to escape a kidnapping attempt on Monday night after he was tossed into the trunk of his own car by bandits.

However, he was thankfully able to free himself before any further harm could happen to him.

The victim, from Boundary Road, San Juan, picked up two men at about 8:00 pm on Monday who asked to be taken to Thomas St, San Juan.

However, upon reaching the destination, the men pulled out firearms and announced a hold-up.

They tied the victim’s hands with a clothes hanger and threw him in the trunk of his own vehicle.

The victim was able to untie himself and escape the trunk while the car was in transit, and raised an alarm.

Residents of the area responded and they safely took the man into their care before the would-be kidnappers could respond.

The police were notified and the vehicle was found crashed and abandoned on the corner of Laventille Road, Saddle Road, San Juan.

San Juan police are continuing inquiries.

More on this as it becomes available.
