Teen among two held for robbing taxi driver
A 17-year-old boy is among two people expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate on Monday, following a report of armed robbery in Aranguez.
The second suspect is said to be a 21-year-old man.
Both suspects were arrested on Friday by officers of the Guard and Emergency Branch.
According to police reports, around 10.45 am on Friday, a taxi-driver was parked along the Aranguez taxi stand, when he was approached by four men who asked to be taken to Queen Street, El Socorro.
Upon reaching their destination, the men announced a robbery.
They then assaulted the driver, and threw him out of the vehicle.
The men then escaped in the driver’s Nissan B15 .
However, the driver made a report to the police, and a team of officers who were in the area at the time responded.
The officers, intercepted a vehicle which matched the description given to the officers along Abdool Young Street.
However, upon being stopped, two of the suspects jumped out of the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.
The two other individuals – the 17-year-old and the 21-year-old – were immediately taken into custody.
They were questioned and are said to be aiding police with their inquiries.
