Teen in custody after stolen car recovered, firearm found
A 19-year-old man is expected to be brought before an Arima Magistrate on Wednesday on allegations of firearm possession.
The teenager was arrested Tuesday morning in Allstars Crescent, Malabar.
According to police reports, a team of officers from the La Horquetta Police Station were conducting an exercise in the area around 4AM on Monday when they received information that the driver of a gold Nissan Almera motor vehicle had been robbed of his car at gunpoint.
The officers received information that the vehicle was seen along Tumpuna Road, Arima and they made their way to the location.
The car, LoopTT was told, was found abandoned at Allstars Crescent.
A man who matched the description of one of the assailants who robbed the victim was seen walking along the said roadway as police arrived.
The officers called on the suspect to stop, however, he refused and attempted to flee the scene on foot instead.
There was a short chase and the suspect was held a short distance away. Police claimed that he threw an item into the yard of one of the residents.
A search was conducted and the officers allegedly found and seized one pistol loaded with 13 rounds of 9mm ammunition in the area they saw the suspect throw the object.
The illegal items were seized and the stolen vehicle was recovered.
