Teen to face court for stealing cash, over $60K worth of jewellery

A 14-year-old boy is expected to appear before a Rio Claro Magistrate on allegations that he stole a quantity of cash and over $60,000 worth of jewellery.

Police said the teenager and a 59-year old man were detained in connection with the incident.

They were both detained on Tuesday.

The teenager told police he used the stolen money, as well as the cash from the proceeds of the sales of the jewellery to buy several items for his home including a PS4, two flat screen televisions, a dining room set for his mother and a security camera system.

The boy’s mother, upon questioning told police she was unaware the new items which were being brought into her house were bought cash that had been obtained illegally.

The arrests stem from burglary at the home 69-year-old man along the Naparima Mayaro Road, Rio Claro last weekend.

The victim told police that $4000 cash and $60,000 in gold jewellery were missing from his apartment.

Investigations were launched by PC Meighoo under the supervisions of Sgt, which led to the arrests.
