Teen rescued after alleged kidnapping
Efforts of officers of the Eastern Division, resulted in the rescue of a 16-year-old girl mere hours after she had allegedly been kidnapped.
The teenager told police that around 5:30pm yesterday, she was at her home along Cumuto Road, Coryal doing laundry, when she was approached by a masked man.
The young girl told police that she was then dragged into the bushes, and taken to a building some three kilometres away.
She said she was sexually assaulted by the man, who then left her in a room in the building, where she remained until she was rescued by officers of the Cumuto Police Station.
Police were informed the girl was missing shortly before 6pm yesterday and Sgt Williams and his team conducted inquiries in the area.
Acting on information received, around 7:35pm, the officers made their way to a home in the area occupied by a 27-year-old man.
The house was searched and the teenager was found hiding under a bed in the house.
The 16-year-old was taken for medical examinations to determine if she had been raped or sexually assaulted.
The 27-year-old man was detained, and up to 9am today, was still in police custody aiding officials with their inquiries.
