Teenager killed in hit and run

Police are investigating the death of 17-year-old David Sancaro.

Moore died yesterday after he was struck by a van in Dow Village, South Oropouche.

According to initial reports, at about 9:00 pm on Sunday night, Sancaro had a confrontation with a man known to him, following which the man walked away.

As Moore was standing along the roadway, he was hit by a van - described as a Toyota Hilux - which was proceeding along the road.

The driver of the car failed to stop and render assistance.

Persons on the scene performed CPR in an attempt to render aid as the emergency health services responded.

The teenager was rushed to hospital, however, he reportedly succumbed to the injuries sustained.

Witnesses told police that they believed the driver of the truck deliberately meant to hit Sancaro, as no attempts were allegedly made to avoid the teenager.

An autopsy has been ordered and is expected to take place today at the Forensic Science Center in St James.

More on this as it becomes available.
