Teens arrested for stealing Hilux
A joyride by three teenagers in a Toyota Hilux stolen from a 61-year-old woman was cut short by officers of the Arima Crime Patrol Unit, who recovered the vehicle just minutes after it was taken from the victim’s Wallerfield home.
According to reports, around 1:21 pm on Wednesday the woman was approached by a masked man as she got out of her vehicle and was about to enter her yard.
The suspect demanded she hand over the keys to her vehicle, and she complied.
However, the thief did not make it very far as officers on mobile patrol in the area at the time, intercepted the vehicle along Demerara Road, Arima, just four minutes later.
The suspect was the lone occupant.
The lawmen also recovered a Nissan Note with two male occupants, which was reported stolen at gunpoint by a 41-year-old man, at Fiddler’s Dream, Arima, last month.
The driver of the Hilux van and one of the occupants of the Note ran off, while the second occupant of the Note, a 17-year-old, from Valencia was arrested.
The suspects who escaped; an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old, both of Mt. Zion Road, Arima, were subsequently arrested around 2 am on Thursday.
Officers involved in the exercise included Sgt. Shawn Steele of the Arima Police Station, and PCs Adrian Williams, Aaron Cabralis and Christoph Mitchell, of the Arima Crime Patrol Unit.
