Teens caught with drugs outside MP's office
Less than two days after a report was made during the police town meeting in St Joseph in which residents of Mt Lambert complained that drugs were being sold near the constituency office of St Joseph Member of Parliament (MP) Terrence Deyalsingh, two persons were arrested and fined.
The two have been identified as Afida Moraldo and Kwesi Sutherland, both 19-years-old and residents of the area.
According to police reports, the two men were arrested at about 10:00 pm last Thursday during a raid by officers of the North Eastern Task Force.
The raid was supervised by Snr Supt Sagramsingh and included ASP Sooker, Insp James, Sgt Guelmo, Cpl Majid and Cpl Lavia.
Moraldo was allegedly held with 58 grammes of marijuana, while Sutherland was allegedly held with 42 grammes.
The two teenagers appeared before a Port of Spain Magistrate the following day, and they both pleaded guilty to the offence.
As they did not waste the court’s time the matter was dealt with immediately and neither accused were given a custodial sentence.
Moraldo was fined $10,000 while Sutherland, was fined $3,000.
Both were ordered to pay the respective fines within 30 days, failure to do so would see the two teenagers serving their sentence behind bars.
