Teens rob maxi-taxi driver at gunpoint

Police are currently searching for a group of young men who robbed a maxi-taxi driver at gunpoint along the Priority Bus Route Monday night.

The victim, from Dinsley Village, Tacarigua, reportedly picked up two male passengers between the ages of 15 and 18 at the Criosee in San Juan at about 9.15 pm on Monday.

Upon nearing Beetham Gardens, the teenagers asked the driver to stop.

The driver brought the vehicle to a stop, but one of the assailants pulled up the handbrakes while the other pulled out a firearm.

The two announced a holdup, and two other men who were standing along the roadway at the time boarded the vehicle and relieved the driver of two gold beras valued at $6,000.

The driver was also robbed of two cellular phones, valued at $4,800; a gold chain valued at $3,000; and a quantity of cash.

The men then escaped by running into the Beetham community.

The police were notified and PC McCully is continuing inquiries.
