Parts of Sando hospital to undergo power outages on Sunday

Visitors to the San Fernando General Hospital are advised of electricity interruptions to parts of the facility between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm on Sunday 19 May, 2019.

In a statement issued Friday, the Southwest Regional Health Authority said Sunday's interruption will affect Medical Extension 1 and 3, the Burns Unit and the Labour Ward.

The SWRHA said Elevator No. 1 will also be unavailable. The public is advised to utilize the other elevators strategically located at the facility.

The interruption is the result of electrical upgrades to the infrastructure at the facility.

The Authority said it has become necessary to facilitate the removal and replacement of the electrical panel at Tower 1.

The SWRHA added that all appropriate safety and emergency protocols would be activated to mitigate any inconvenience that might be caused.

The SWRHA reassured the public of its commitment to providing quality healthcare in a safe environment for our patients, visitors and staff and thanked the public for their patience.

Concerns were raised by the public on April 25, 2019, after electrical outages left the hospital in darkness for some time.

The SWRHA said the installation of a new breaker was alleged to have been the cause of the outage, while babies from the Neo Natal unit were transferred to to the Recovery Room at the New Wing, SFGH and at the San Fernando Teaching Hospital, as those facilities had not been affected by the electrical disruption.
