Ten foreign nationals detained for illegally entering country
Ten foreign nationals and two locals were detained by police during an anti-crime operation conducted at the Los Iros Beach Facility on Saturday night.
According to a statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, based on information, around 8.30 p.m, WPC Vespre, PC Hansraj and a party of officers from the Santa Flora Police Station and South Western Division Task Force went to the location.
Upon arrival the officers observed a vessel close to the shoreline with 10 persons exiting the vessel, which then sped off.
The persons then began running toward an apartment building located nearby.
The party of officers observed a man and woman assisting the 10 persons into the apartment.
The officers then approached, identified themselves and sought to enquire about the names and addresses of the 10 suspects.
Upon enquiring it became evident that none of the 10 suspects understood the English language.
They were also unable to produce documentation for entering the country legally.
Therefore, the 10 foreign nationals and two locals were detained and taken to the Erin Police Station pending enquires of illegally entering the country and human trafficking.
