Things to do this Weekend: Band launch season is here

The weekend is here once again and this one signals the start of something special: Carnival 2019. Yes, whether or not you are ready the Carnival season has unofficially begun as band launch season kicks off tonight with the launch of new band Enless Carnival followed by the launch of Paparazzi on Saturday.  But if you aren't into Carnival, it's okay, the weekend is full of activities for everyone. Check out the list below and have an enjoyable weekend. 

Enless Band Launch

The 4th Annual Illuminate 5K night run/walk

Date: July 7

Time: Gates open at 4 pm, run starts at 7 pm

Venue:  Skinner Park, San Fernando

Details: Illuminate Night Run is a glow fun run for persons of all ages and fitness levels. Runners, joggers, walkers can join in an evening filled with glow powder. They have partnered with the National Centre for Persons with Disabilities to create awareness about differently abled persons and highlight the issues that they are experiencing. ILLUMINATE signifies light over darkness and they are using the run to bring to light issues that are in the dark. All participants are asked to wear black.

Cheer Fair 

Date: July 7

Time: 1 pm to 5 pm. 

Venue: Arima Velodrome

Details: Cheer Fair will have a street fair/community-based feel with activities happening simultaneously and executed by various collaborators and NGOs to engage those who live in Arima and its environs. The event will highlight the Inter-American Development Bank’s work under the Human Capital Development pillar of our Country Strategy and will focus on the areas of water and sanitation, health, gender, climate change, education, housing and urban development.

Hearts Beat Together 3

Date: July 6 to 8

Venues: All Saints Church (Port-of-Spain), St Joseph’s Convent chapel (Port-of-Spain) St Marys Church (Tacarigua)

Details: The concert will once again showcase the Marionettes’ three choirs performing a range of music — spirituals, gospel, pop, Broadway, calypso classics arranged by Desmond Waithe, and much more! The concert also features some of the nation’s top soloists of all. The St. Joseph's Convent (Port of Spain) choir will also be making a special guest appearance at the SJC performance on Saturday night.
