Things to do this Weekend: Carifesta, Pajama Party and Nature Tours

The weekend has come once again and with JAVA in full swing and Carifesta fast approaching, you have endless options on how you can spend it. From scenic hikes and tours through nature to the launch of Carifesta and the Carifesta Edition of the Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival. There is something for everyone.

Even if you prefer to stay cozy in your PJs and robes you don’t have to stay at home this weekend to enjoy such comfort. Here is your guide to a weekend of fun-filled memories.

Carifesta XIV

Date: August 16 to August 25

Venue: Various venues, Trinidad and Tobago

What: A huge festival displaying the arts and culture of the entire Caribbean region with Trinidad and Tobago as the 2019 host nation. It consists of a wide variety of events such as food festivals, concerts, plays, art exhibitions and workshops.

Down De Islands Cruise

Date: August 16

Meeting Point: Cruise Inn Marina

Time: 9 am to 1 pm

What: A cruise along the Northwest Coast of Trinidad where attendees can swim in secluded bays and view the islands, Gaspar Grande, Monos, Chacachacare.

Haul Yuh Mic presents “Roast Fowl”

Date: August 16

Venue: Bite Me Bistro, Anderson Street, Curepe

Time: 6 pm to 8 pm

What: A Stand-up Comedy Open Mic event full of roast jokes, sarcasm, and dark humour

Pajama Party

Date: August 17

Venue: The Bungalow Trinidad, Rush Street, Port of Spain

Time: 7 pm to 2 am

What: Dress to impress in your best robes, PJs or nighties. A prize will be awarded for the best outfit.

Moon on a Rainbow Shawl

Date: August 17

Venue: National Academy for the Performing Arts – Lord Kitchener Auditorium

Time: 8 pm to 10:30 pm

What: The revival of a classic local play by Errol John

Featuring: The National Theatre Arts Company along, the National Philharmonic, National Steel Symphony Orchestras

Laventille Steelband Festival Foundation Street Parade

Date: August 17

Venue: Between Pashley and Leon Streets, Success Village, Laventille

Time: 6 pm to 11:59 pm

What: “Chip down de road” to the sounds of steel pan and experience the hospitality of communities of Laventille.

2019 Trinidad+Tobago Film Festival Carifesta Edition

Date: August 17 to August 23

Venue: Various screening venues, Trinidad

What: The presentation and celebration of over 90 films from Caribbean people in 7 days.

Gasparee Caves and Kayak Centre Escapade

Date: August 18

Meeting Point: Island Property Owners Association Jetty, Chaguaramas

Time: 9 am to 4 pm

What: A scenic boat ride to Gasparee Grande Island followed by a fun hike and tour through the Gasparee Caves that ends off with relaxing kayaking experience.

MUD! – Visit the L’eau Michel Mud Volcano

Date: August 18

Venue: South Trinidad

Time: 9 am to 4 pm

What: A hike through an abandoned sugar cane plantation and teak forest to the mud volcano where one can enjoy the rejuvenating benefits of a mud bath. It ends with a short hike to a lovely beach to wash off the mud.
