Three arrested after high-speed chase, shootout in Point Fortin

Three suspects have been arrested following a high speed chase and shootout with police in Point Fortin.

According to reports, Cpl Naresh Bajan, PC Arnold Maharaj and PC Adel Clarke, of the Point Fortin Police Station, were on mobile patrol in the Point Fortin district around 2:30pm on Saturday when they observed a silver Nissan B14 with four male occupants heading east along the Guapo-Cap-de-Ville Main Road at high speed.

The officers pursued the vehicle and the front seat passenger began shooting at them.

There was a return of fire, resulting in the vehicle veering off the roadway and crashing. The gunman got out of the vehicle and ran off.

The officers gave chase, shots were fired, but the gunman eluded capture, by escaping into nearby bushes.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and one pistol along with a magazine containing five rounds of ammunition were discovered. Three suspects; a 27- year-old taxi driver of Techier Village, Point Fortin, a 22-year-old man and a 25-year-old man, both fabricators, of Diego Martin, were arrested in connection with the incident.

A search is currently underway for the fourth suspect.
