Three charged for demanding $55K from businessman

Three Santa Cruz men were granted bail when they appeared before a Chaguanas Magistrate on Monday, after being charged with demanding money by menace of a businessman.

The three suspects, Yasser Barthelmy, 33; Kerlon Jeatto, 28; and Dariel Apparicio, 27, all from Lower Santa Cruz, pleaded not guilty and were each granted $65,000 bail.

The charges stem from an incident which took place last Friday.

According to police, the men demanded that the owner of the business located in St. Helena, Piarco, give them $55,000 or risk having them shoot at the business shot.

The police were immediately contacted via E999.

The suspects were intercepted by Special Operations Response Team (SORT) officers along the St. Helena Junction, minutes after the report was made.

All three were taken to the Las Lomas Police Post where they were subsequently charged by PC Emamdee, on Sunday.

The matter has been adjourned to June 10.
