Three people are expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate in May, after being charged for illegal abstraction of water from the Water and Sewerage Authority's (WASA) waterworks system, as well as illegal tampering with a fire hydrant.
Charges were laid against the three by WASA security officers in accordance with Section 6 of the Water Works Act 54:41.
The accused are from Bagatelle Road, Diego Martin; Espanyol Street, Diego Martin and Fatima Trace, Paramin, Maraval, have each been served with Summons to appear at the Port-of-Spain Third Magistrates Court on May 24 2019, to answer to the charges.
If found guilty, the penalty under these charges range from $1,500.00 to $3,000.00 or six months imprisonment.
In light of the current harsh dry season and in keeping with the end of the Amnesty for regularisation of illegal connections or accounts which were wrongly classified, WASA says it intends to intensify action against individuals found to be illegally abstracting water from or tampering with its waterworks systems.
