Three cops arrested for extortion

Three police officers are currently in custody after allegations of extortion were made against them.

The three officers - one of whom is said to be a special reserve officer - were detained Thursday by officials from the Professional Standards Bureau.

They were detained after allegations were made against them that they took an estimated US$1,500 from an individual during a recent road block exercise in Cunupia.

The three officers, LoopTT was told, have been cooperating with investigations, have denied the allegations, and have reportedly been allowed to gather legal counsel.

Senior officials involved in the investigation are expected to approach officials at the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for instructions on how to proceed against the three men.
