Three in court for gun possession
Three men were expected to appear before a Magistrate on Monday after they were charged with possession of a firearm.
The men, ages 21, 22 and 24, were held with a loaded firearm during a routine police exercise along the Naparima Mayaro Road, in Cocoyea Village.
According to reports, at around 11 pm on Friday, officers were conducting roadblock exercises when they stopped a silver Nissan Tiida near the NPS Drug Store.
When the vehicle stopped, the driver exited and ran from the scene.
The three passengers were ordered to remain where they were.
The vehicle was searched and the officers found and seized a black Berretta Pistol loaded with five rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The trio was subsequently arrested and taken into custody and was charged by PC Ali.
The exercise was supervised by Snr Sup Mohammed and included other officers from the Mon Repos Police Station.
