Three held for robbing taxi driver in St James

Three men are expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate today after they robbed a taxi-driver in St James.

The incident allegedly took place on Monday night along the Western Main Road near Universal Bar.

According to reports, around 9 pm on Monday, three men – aged 18, 18, and 22  - entered a grey Honda Civic at Independence Square, Port of Spain, and asked to be taken to St James.

The men asked the driver to stop as he approached Universal Bar. 

They grabbed a gold chain belonging to the 45-year-old driver, pulled a knife on him and took $90 in cash he had on his person.

The three men then exited the vehicle and escaped by running south along Vidal Street, St James.

The police were notified and a team of officers from the St James Police Station, led by PC Thomas, responded.

Officers were able to apprehend the three suspects a short while later and they were all positively identified by the driver.

They have since been charged and are expected before the courts today.
