Three held for smoking weed in carpark granted bail
The three men who were held for smoking marijuana in a public space have been granted bail.
The men are Guyanese nationals Balram Khemraj and Hemant Narayan, along with Daryl Bhowram.
During their first court appearance, the three men entered a ‘not guilty’ plea to the allegations.
The matter has been set for trial on April 17.
Bail was continued and the men were allowed to leave the court.
PC Charles was the complainant (charging officer) in this matter.
The three men were held on Christmas Eve in a red Honda Coupe.
At the time, police claim they were in the car smoking marijuana.
While marijuana may be decriminalised for personal consumption (30 grammes and less) at home, it remains illegal to smoke the drug in public.
At about midday, the three men, between 24 and 30, were held after police observed smoke coming from a car parked in the carpark.
Upon investigating, they found three men in the vehicle lighting a joint.
As a result, the men were detained and charged.
The arrests were effected by PC Kerr and PC Charles of the Arouca CID.
More on this as it becomes available.
