Three killed in police shooting in Morvant

Three men are dead following a confrontation with police on Saturday afternoon in Morvant.

One victim was identified as Joel Jacob while the other two men had not been identified up to Sunday morning.

Police said around 2.15 pm on Saturday, a team of officers from the Port of Spain Division, under the supervision of Sgt Solomon, as well as the Guard and Emergency Branch, were on patrol along Juman Drive, Second Caledonia, Morvant.

Upon reaching the vicinity of "The Auto Guru Building" officers spotted a Nissan Tiida vehicle driving west, heading towards the police.

The officers stopped the vehicle and approached the car, which was occupied by three men.

Police claimed that a man in the back seat of the car came out of the vehicle and opened fire on the officers.

The officers adhered to the use of force policy and returned fire, hitting the occupants in the car.

Police claimed a black Beretta pistol with a quantity of live ammunition were found and seized at the rear seat of the car.

The three injured men were rushed to the Port of Spain General Hospital, however, they were pronounced dead on arrival.

A team of officers under the supervisions of Sup Moore and Sup Brandon John, led by Insp Morales and Insp Alexis visited the scene.
