Three men in court after assault rifle seized

Three men who were held with an AR-15 semi-automatic assault rifle in Carenage, have appeared before a Port of Spain Magistrate.

The three men, Atiba O’Brien of Big Yard, Carenage, Meshach Farrell of Waterhole, Cocorite, and Sherlon Roberts of Waterhole, Cocorite, all appeared before Magistrate Rehanna Hosein at the Port of Spain Magistrates’ 4B Court.

The charges were laid indictably and as a result, none of the accused were called upon to enter a plea.

After further submissions before the courts, O’Brien was placed on bail of $200,000, while Roberts was placed on bail on $175,000.

Both bail bonds were to be approved by a clerk of the peace before they could be secured.

Farrell was denied bail, due to having other matters before the courts.

The matter was then adjourned and is expected to resume on September 11.

The weapon along with 15 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, was found at about 4:00 am on Saturday during a search of a home in Upper Big Yard, Carenage, during an exercise by officers of the Western Division Task Force.

The exercise was coordinated by Sgt Arneaud, and included  Acting Corporal Clement, PC Gilkes, PC Mc Clean, PC St. John, PC Genty, PC Bart, WPC Matthews, PC Christopher, & PC Sahadath.

More on this as it becomes available.
