Three months hard labour for assaulting wife
A 43-year-old Claxton Bay man was sentenced to three months hard labour after he was found guilty of assaulting his wife at their home on Friday.
In addition to his time served, he has also been placed on a three year bail bond, in which he cannot breach any laws of this nation, as he will automatically face a custodial sentence again upon arrest.
Narindra Samdeo will spend the next three months in jail following a ruling by Magistrate Cherril Ann Antoine.
He first appeared before the Magistrate on Monday in relation to the allegations of assault by beating.
He was represented by attorney Ainsley Lucky.
Samdeo pleaded guilty and the matter was recalled yesterday where he was sentenced.
According to police reports, around 11:50 pm on Friday, officers of the St Margaret’s Police Station went to Samdeo’s home after receiving a report of domestic violence.
Upon their arrival, they were confronted by a 37-year-old woman who told the officers of the allegations.
Samdeo, upon being questioned, admitted to the allegations and was arrested as a result.
When the matter was called before the court, the Magistrate was told that this was not an isolated incident, and she claimed that she had been a victim for 12 years – since she was pregnant with the couple’s eldest child.
After further submissions, Samdeo was sentenced.
