Three men were committed to stand trial this week for the murder of police sergeant Hayden Manwaring.

Manwaring, who was 42 when he was killed, was fatally shot on February 19, 2013, along Butler St, San Fernando.

At the time, he was responding to a robbery.

PC Nicholas Phillip, who responded along with Manwaring, was shot in the arm.

After a series of investigations, four men were arrested.

However, one of the accused, Kofi Cropper, 40, of Manhambre, Ste Madeleine, died in prison.

The other three accused are Kerron Nicholas Garcia, 25, of Aldana Street, Princes Town; Kelvin Wallace, 29, of Flamingo Crescent, Pleasantville; and Anthony Clement, 43, of East Dry River, Port of Spain.

The preliminary inquiry into the incident took place before Magistrate Cherril-Anne Antoine, in the San Fernando Magistrates’ First Court.

ASP Seemungal Rampersad was the complainant (charging officer) in this matter.

Attorneys Shuan Teekasingh, Fareed Ali and Godson Phillip, represented the interests of the accused in this matter.

The State was represented by attorney Brandon Sookoo.

At the close of the inquiry this week, Antoine told the court that she found a prima-facie case had been made out against the three men, and as a result, the matter was sent to the High Court for Trial.

More on this as it becomes available.
