Tobago Autonomy Bill goes to Parliament in April

The Tobago Autonomy Bill will be taken to Parliament by the end of April.

This is according to Energy Minister Franklin Khan who was speaking during a news conference at Balisier House in Port of Spain on Saturday evening.

Khan said Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley would be in Tobago on Monday and Tuesday for the final rounds of consultations with the Tobago Chamber of Commerce and the Tobago House of Assembly (THA).

Once the Bill is tabled in Parliament, it will go to a Joint Select Committee for consideration, Khan advised.

He said the Bill would, however, require support from the Opposition to be passed.

Laventille West MP Fitzgerald Hinds has been given the responsibility to ensure the Bill gets to Parliament.

If passed, the Bill will give Tobago more autonomy to govern its own affairs.
