Tobago children’s home gets tech upgrade with new computers

Christmas came early for children from the Sylphil Home in Love in Tobago when they received brand new computers and equipment.

New desktop computers, including educational software, computer desks and chairs, Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) devices and an All-in-One Printer/Scanner were presented to the young residents on November 22.

The kind gift was made possible through a partnership established when IGT, through its After School Advantage Programme and the Home, joined forces.

Installed by IGT’s technicians, the computers will be used by the children to complete their homework assignments, school projects, and conduct research all in the safety and comfort of the Home.

A presentation of IGT’s After School Advantage Programme poster and plaque was also made to Sylvia Phillips-Jack, Manager of Sylphil Home in Love, which solidified the partnership.

Thanking IGT for their donation she said the home felt honoured to be selected to become a partner in the Company’s After School Advantage Programme.

“Now our children can actively participate in this digital world in which we live,” she said.

After the official handover of the equipment and a tour of the facilities, the IGT team hosted the children and their dedicated caregivers to a luncheon where they enjoyed a delicious meal, complete with a special cake.

The unusual name of the Home, ‘Sylphil’, is a combination of its founder’s first name and surname.

The after school programme’s main function is to help underprivileged children between the ages of 5 – 18 gain access to state-of-the-art technology equipment in order to narrow the digital divide, and make education a fun experience for the youth.

Sylphil has provided a safe place for abandoned, orphaned and children with social issues for 50 plus years.
