Tobago nominated for Regional and International Tourism Awards
Destination Tobago is in the running for several regional and international tourism awards.
Caribbean Tourism Organization Sustainable Tourism Awards
The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) recently announced 22 finalists out of 96 entries submitted for consideration in this year’s Caribbean Sustainable Tourism Awards.
Two Tobago entities are among those vying for titles.
The Division of Tourism, Culture and Transportation has been nominated in the “Heritage Protection Award” category for the indigenous Tobago Heritage Festival, which will be celebrating its 30th anniversary next year. This award is based on a tourism organization or initiative making a significant contribution to protect and promote heritage in a society.
Cuffie River Nature Retreat and Eco-Lodge is also nominated in the “Sustainable Accommodation Award” category. This award focuses on a tourism product or initiative that contributes to a better quality of life in the destination and provides a unique visitor experience.
United Kingdom Tourism Market
In the United Kingdom, Trinidad and Tobago is ranked among four finalists in the “Destination for Wild Life and Nature” category for the Selling Travel Agents Choice Award. The Selling Travel Magazine is the UK’s leading monthly independent travel trade publication, covering destinations across the globe, as well as specialist areas, such as cruising, travel technology and sustainable tourism. The winners of the Selling Travel Agents Choice Award will be announced in late September.
Tobago has also been nominated alongside 25 other destinations in the “Top Dive Destination 2017” category of Dive Magazine’s DIVE Travel Awards. Dive Magazine is one of the world’s leading scuba magazines distributed online and in-print to destinations across the globe.
With approximately 70 dive sites offering a variety of underwater landscapes for divers of all levels, Tobago is indeed an ideal dive destination. Online polls are now open for voting and persons wishing to vote for Tobago can visit www.divemagazine.co.uk to do so.
Voting closes on September 31. The winning destination will be announced at the World Travel Market 2017, held at the ExCeL in London in November.
