Tobago villagers rescue girl, 15, from suspected kidnappers

Three men are currently in police custody after they allegedly attempted to kidnap a 15-year-old female student in Tobago.

According to police reports, around 6:30 am on Wednesday, the form three student was at Belle Garden Main Road, awaiting transportation to go to school in Scarborough.

A vehicle pulled alongside her which she assumed was a taxi.

There were three men in the car.

Shortly after driving along the roadway, the girl was told that they would be making a small detour.

While on the Bloody Bay/Roxborough Link Road, the teenager was reportedly accosted.

Residents of the area, however, observed what was taking place and intervened. 

They detained the three men and notified police.

A team of officers under the supervision of ACP Moore and Snr Sup Archie visited the scene.

The three men were detained and are said to be aiding police with their inquiries.

The white vehicle they were in was also seized and is expected to be examined by the crime scenes investigations unit.

The girl, police said, was medically examined, and will be monitored.

Police have praised the actions of the villagers for intervening when they observed something amiss.
