Toddler among two shot in Mayaro

A toddler is said to be among two persons who were shot in Mayaro on Monday night.

The young child has been identified as 23-month old Cristiano Cornwall.

Police say baby Cristiano was in the yard of his father’s home at St Ann’s Road, Mayaro with a group of relatives who were liming outside.

Around 8:45 pm an unknown man approached the group and allegedly inquired about drugs, however, when they denied selling any illegal items, the suspect pulled out a firearm and began shooting indiscriminately.

He then fled the scene.

Following the melee, baby Cristiano was found bleeding from injuries to the chest and arm.

A man identified as  Anthony Hernandez also sustained an injury, but to his lower leg.

The police and emergency health services were notified and both injured parties were rushed to the Mayaro District Hospital.

Baby Cristiano was transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex and is said to be in a stable condition but is being kept for observation.

Hernandez was eventually discharged from the hospital.
