Toddler discharged, one still critical after Laventille shooting

A five-year-old boy, who police said was grazed by bullet during a shooting yesterday in Laventille, has been treated and discharged. 

He is in the care of his 27-year-old father from Mapp Lands, Laventille. 

The young boy was injured in an incident which claimed the life of 23-year-old Kareem Hood from St Francois Valley Road, Belmont. 

Another man, identified a 34-year-old Jason Martin, of St Barb’s, Laventille, was also shot in this incident. 

He remained in a critical condition up to this morning, warded at the Port of Spain General Hospital.  

The shooting took place at about 2.30pm on Friday along Joe Sam Hill, Laventille. 

Residents of the area heard gunshots, following which they saw a group of persons bleeding from injuries. A group of men were also seen fleeing the scene. 

The police were notified, and the injured parties were rushed for treatment. 

However, Hood succumbed to his wounds at the scene.
