Toddler laid to rest after tragic drowning

Two-year-old Isiahilia Sterling, who drowned Chaguaramas on Sunday, was laid to rest on Thursday.

Relatives of the toddler paid their final respects during a funeral service at the San Juan Pentecostal Church, following which, baby Isiahilia was buried at the San Juan Public Cemetery.

Investigations into the toddler’s death are still ongoing, however, her 19-year-old mother was released from custody.

Police told LoopTT that investigators reserved the right to arrest the woman again at the end of the inquiry, should there be enough evidence in the matter to charge her with an offence.

Baby Isiahilia was said to be with her relatives at Williams Bay, Chaguaramas, on Sunday afternoon when she died.

Police were told that the mother was watching baby Isiahilia as well as another child when she turned her attention away from the toddler for a moment.

Shortly after, an alarm was raised and baby Isiahilia was found floating face down in the waters.

Attempts to resuscitate her proved futile.

More on this as it becomes available.
