Tourists robbed in Tobago, suspect arrested

The quick work of Tobago police has led to the arrest of a 57-year-old man, after he allegedly stole from a Polish woman.

The woman was among a group of tourists who came to Tobago on Sunday on two cruise ships which docked at Scarborough’s port.

Police were told that around 11.15am, the woman and her daughter forgot a hand bag on Rockly Bay, off Milford Road, Tobago, in the vicinity of the Esplanade.

Upon realizing they had forgotten the bag, the relatives returned, only to realise the phones and cash which were in the bag were missing.

The women raised an alarm and police were notified.

PC Piggot and PC Wharwood were in the vicinity at the time, and they immediately responded.

The officers were able to detain the suspect a short distance away, and retrieve the stolen items.

The suspect has since been charged with the offence of larceny and is expected to appear before a Scarborough Magistrate today.

THA Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles has condemned the incident.
