In an effort to identify opportunities for business development and expansion via an e-commerce platform, Trade Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon met with e-commerce technology executives of Wi-Pay last Friday at her Port-of-Spain office.

Wi-Pay is an online payment platform which facilitates cash transfers between parties. The system replaces cash, with customers and merchants being able to spend and receive money via the solution.

Minister Gopee-Scoon praised the initiative indicating that it has the potential to encourage the proliferation of e-commerce activity in Trinidad and Tobago.

"E-Commerce if properly developed and harnessed, can be a key driver for economic growth, it not only enhances the competitiveness and efficiency of firms, but also gives rise to new economic opportunities," she said.

An e-Commerce Strategy is currently under consideration.
