Traffic Alert: Burst main near POS lighthouse

Drivers are advised of a traffic disruption along the Beetham Highway near the lighthouse, due to a large pothole caused by a burst main.

A statement from the Ministry of Works and Transport said there is a depression in the middle lane before the lighthouse, heading westbound into Port of Spain.

As a result, motorists are advised to use alternative routes if possible as there may be a back-up of traffic in this area.

The Ministry said it has contacted the relevant authorities to assist in returning the lane to its normal operation in the shortest amount of time.

Corporate Communications Manager at the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), Daniel Plenty, said to LoopTT that the issue concerns a broken main, and that teams are heading to the site to begin repairs.

As a result, the Priority Bus Route (PBR) has been opened to vehicular traffic until 6:00 am on Saturday to ease congestion heading in and out of the capital.

Update: In a statement, WASA said repairs will be conducted between Friday 9:00 pm and Saturday 5:00 am.
