Traffic alert: CRH partially closed, PBR partially opened this weekend

Drivers are advised of temporary road closures and the partial opening of the Priority Bus Route (PBR) due to road works along the Curepe intersection this weekend.

In a statement the Ministry of Works and Transport in collaboration with NIDCO said part of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway (CRH) near the Curepe Interchange will be temporarily closed from Sunday at 6.00 am ending Monday at 3.00 am, to facilitate the removal of formwork from the Bridge Deck.

The Ministry added that that from there will also be an intermittent traffic disruption along the westbound and eastbound lane(s) of the CRH from Morequito Avenue (in the vicinity of Valpark) to the Spring Village Hindu School to facilitate the installation of Overhead Gantry Signs Structures.

As a result, ONLY the Priority Bus Route will be open from its intersections with the Uriah Butler Highway (Mt Hope Intersection) to the Macoya Road Intersection.

During this time, all traffic will be diverted accordingly by officers on-site.

From the UBH Northbound

Motorists travelling north along the Uriah Butler Highway (UBH) from San Fernando, Chaguanas and environs who wish to proceed East beyond the closed section of the CRH are advised to continue along the northbound section of the UBH and turn right onto the PBR at the Mt Hope intersection.

Motorists should proceed along the authorised section of the PBR and turn right at its intersection with the MAcoya Road to access the CRH.

 

From the CRH Eastbound

Motorists travelling along the CRH from Port of Spain, El Socorro and environs who wish to proceed east beyond the closed section of the CRH will be diverted to the northbound section of the UBH and should turn right onto the PBR at the Mt Hope Intersection.

Motorists should proceed along the authorised section of the PBR and turn right at its intersection with Macoya Road to access the CRH.

 

From the CRH Westbound

Motorists travelling west along the CRH from Arima, Piarco, Trincity and environs who wish to proceed west beyond the closed section of the CRH will be diverted to Macoya Road (North) and should then turn left onto the PBR.

Motorists should then proceed along the authorised section of the PBR, turn left at the Mt Hope intersection to access the UBH southbound and follow the directional signs to access the CRH.

 

From SMR North

Motorists travelling south along the SMR from Curepe and environs who wish to proceed west along the CRH are advised that there are no major changes to existing movements.

Motorists are further advised to observe all temporary directional signage provided on the approaches to the site to access their final destination.

 

From SMR South

Motorists travelling north along the SMR from Caroni, Spring Village and environs who wish to proceed to the CRH or SMR (North) to Curepe and environs are advised that there are no major changes to existing movements. Motorists are further advised to observe all temporary directionals signage provided on the approached to the site to access their final destination.

 

Local traffic

Motorists and residents whose final destination lies within the temporarily closed section of the CRH highway (Valsayn North, Valsayn South, Bamboo No. 2, Bamboo No. 3 and environs) will be diverted accordingly or allowed to proceed to access their final destination.

The Ministry and NIDCO motorists to proceed with caution and drive at reduced speeds on approaching the work zone and to observe all directional signage and barriers provided on the approaches to the construction zone.

Drivers are also asked to comply with instructions issued by police officers/traffic wardens to facilitate a safe and orderly flow of traffic.

The company said all precautions are being taken by the Ministry, NIDCO and its contractor to guarantee proper health, safety and environmental standards are maintained.

 

Traffic disruptions along the CRH from February 22-March 31, 2020

Additionally, NIDCO said traffic disruptions along the CRH would take place from Saturday, February 22 to March 31, 2020 to facilitate the completion of works at the Curepe intersection as follows: 

Eastbound lanes: 8.00 am to 2.00 pm 

Westbound lanes: 10.00 am to 5.00 pm 

The disruption would take along the highway between Morequito Avenue in the vicinity of Valplark to the Spring Village Hindu School. 

The Ministry said a minimum of two lanes of traffic will remain open to motorists along the CRH at all times.
