Traffic alert: Road works on the Southern Main Road
Drivers are advised of road works along the Southern Main Road (SMR) due to works for the Curepe Interchange Project.
The Ministry of Works and Transport in partnership with the National Infrastructure Development Company Limited (NIDCO) issued a statement saying the temporary traffic disruption will take place along the SMR south of its intersection with the Churchill Roosevelt Highway (CRH) near the old Kay Donna compound on Sunday, March 8, 2020, between 7.00 am and 12.00 pm.
The traffic change was done to facilitate paving works associated with the Curepe Interchange Project.
The Ministry said one lane of traffic will remain open to motorists in both directions along the SMR at all times.
Drivers are advised that alternative routes can be used as follows:
- Caroni Savannah Road to access the Uriah Butler Highway and
- Trantrill Road/Freeman Road to access the CRH
The public is asked to proceed with caution and drive at a reduced speed on approaching the work zone, to observe all temporary directional signage provided on the approaches to the site.
Drives are also advised to follow instructions issued by police officers on site to facilitate the safe and orderly flow of traffic and to be aware of heavy equipment entering and exiting the site.
