Traffic diverted on Lady Young due to major landslip
Update Monday, September 11, 2017, at 1:00 pm:
The Lady Young Road is now clear after the Ministry of Works and Transport carried out repair work along the Lady Young road over the weekend.
The Ministry said a technical team visited the site on the Lady Young Road after a major landslip was reported on Saturday around 4:00 pm.
The team worked throughout the night and continued on Sunday to ensure that affected areas are restored to a state of normalcy.
The Office of Disaster Preparedness and MOWT is advising all motorists that there will be a traffic diversion from Maryland Hill (by the Lady Young lookout) to the Trinidad Hilton, as the area is impassable at this time. Motorists are being encouraged to use alternative routes if possible.
Minister of Works and Transport, Rohan Sinanan was due to visit Port of Spain on Saturday evening following the conclusion of his tour in Siparia.
The Minister was expected to conduct assessments of several areas adversely affected by the torrential downpour and flash flooding experienced in Port of Spain and environs just after midday on Saturday.
The Ministry says it is utilising all necessary manpower and will work overnight to return affected areas to a state of normalcy in the shortest possible timeframe.
