Trafficking charge for man caught with marijuana near school

Although he was held with only an estimated 14 grammes of marijuana, a Siparia man is facing “trafficking” charges on Monday as he was held within 500 metres of a school.

He is expected to appear before a Siparia Magistrate today.

The suspect was held during police exercises on Friday night along Thompson Trace, Siparia.

Police said they were on patrol in the area when they observed the suspect acting in a suspicious manner.

At the time, he was about 25 feet away from the Siparia West Secondary School.

On seeing the police vehicle, the suspect clenched his front pants pocket and began to run into a bushy area.

PC Titus and other officers gave chase and the suspect was held a short distance away.

A search was conducted and the suspect allegedly had in his possession four green plastic packets of marijuana – apparently packaged for sale.

As a result of the find, the suspect was arrested and taken into custody where he was charged.
