Scarborough Hospital Medical Chief of Staff axed

The Chief of Medical Staff at the Scarborough General Hospital has been fired after less than a year on the job.

The Tobago Regional Health Authority (TRHA) in a brief statement confirmed that effective immediately, it had terminated the services of Dr Rufaro Celestine.

Dr Celestine, who has a background in public health, paediatrics and dermatology only took up the role on January 2, 2019.

The TRHA gave no reason for Dr Celestine's sacking, but assured its commitment to "ensuring the delivery of the best quality of healthcare to all".

Dr Celestine was recently vocal about what she viewed as the Hospital's lack of capacity to offer specialist care to its patients.

The Authority said clinical oversight at the Hospital will be undertaken by Dr Victor Wheeler, Head of Department, Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
