Trini named 2017 Commonwealth Caribbean Rhodes scholar

T&T national Mandela Patrick is the 2018 Commonwealth Caribbean Rhodes Scholarship winner.
The 22-year-old emerged as the winner out of the nine candidates who applied for the scholarship to study at Oxford University, United Kingdom. Trinidadian Kirin Rambaran was also shortlisted for the scholarship.
The announcement was made on Monday in Barbados by Acting Governor General Sir Philip Greaves.
Three graduates of Harrison College, Barbados, were among the nine shortlisted and interviewed by the selection panel this year.
Patrick will spend two years completing a Masters in Computer Science and a Masters in Statistics, commencing October 2018.
The scholar credits hard work, time management and commitment as the formula to success – one that seems to be working quite well for him.
At the age of 19, Patrick topped the Caribbean in Mathematics and Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
The former Naparima Boys’ College student from Palmiste, San Fernando is an ICT student at Harvard University.
