Watch: Trinis get 'Carnival proud' with Digicel

Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival is still widely regarded as the greatest show on earth. To many Trinbagonians, this concept is dynamic and multi-faceted as it's filled with fond memories, eager expectations, and nostalgic cultural traditions.

Digicel has used technology to help Carnival lovers share their feelings on social media with the release of an online video themed ‘Carnival Proud.’

The video features vignettes from people around the country, giving their personal accounts of what carnival means to them. From the self-proclaimed carnival baby to the avid veteran wining master, Digicel’s Carnival Proud video showcases numerous perspectives from the man in the street as to why people love their carnival.

“Technology is a major part of our daily lives and Digicel is happy to use this technology to connect people during Carnival. Historically, cultural knowledge and significance were passed down from generation to generation through the stories we told in our calypsoes, and in our dances for example. Now, we are using technology to share these stories with the world” said Digicel PR Director Penny Gomez.

The video has gone viral on social media and the public has been invited to share it with their networks. Amongst the numerous reasons given for people’s pride in carnival, the top mentions were the music, fetes and the overall vibes of the festival.

“We want to let the world know why Trinidad and Tobago is carnival proud. Continue to create great stories and Digicel would ensure that you stay connected so that you can upload, like, comment and share them in real time. At Digicel, we live the sentiments expressed by our customers and we too are Carnival Proud,” Gomez added.
