Tropical depression forms in Atlantic

Tropical Depression Eleven has formed in the Atlantic Ocean.

In an update on Tuesday afternoon, the Met Office said at 5pm the centre of Tropical Depression Eleven was located near 11.7 N 40.0 W or about 2335 km East of the Lesser Antilles.

It said the depression is moving toward the west at near 26 km/h and this general motion is expected to continue through Wednesday.

A west-northwest motion at a similar forward speed is forecast to begin Wednesday night and continue through the rest of the week.

Maximum sustained winds are near 55 km/h with higher gusts.

The Met Office said strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and the depression is expected to become a Tropical Storm by Wednesday night.

It said at present, this system does not pose any direct threat to Trinidad and Tobago or Grenada and its dependencies.
